Executive Director

Overview: The Executive Director is responsible for managing the human and financial resources of the Saginaw Symphony Association (SSA) in order to achieve the Orchestra’s mission. To that end, the Executive Director is responsible and accountable for all aspects of the organization including implementing the policies set forth by the (SSA) Board of Directors. The Executive Director serves as chief operating officer of the SBSO, reporting to the Board of Directors under the general supervision of the President of the Board or their designee. 

Qualifications: Significant managerial experience in non-profit arts administration. Executive experience with an emphasis on fund development and a college degree preferred.

Job Responsibilities: The Executive Director is responsible for supervising all operations of the organization including a small administrative and artistic staff. In addition, the Executive Director is accountable for their direct impact in a number of operational capacities

Direct Accountabilities

Fund Development: including fundraising through annual fund drives, special events, corporate sponsorships, endowment campaigns, annual fund drives, cultivating individual donors, and grant writing & reporting.

Board of Directors: Attend monthly meetings to advise Board of Directors on efficient operations and delivery of artistic services.

Volunteer Management: Recruit, train, & manage service volunteers

Administrative: Maintain business office; recruit, train, & oversee staff. 

Artistic: Keep abreast of activities & developments in the orchestra field to ensure progress in the Orchestra’s mission. 

Supervisory Responsibilities

Artistic Programming: Assist and work with the Music Director to develop and implement relevant, mission-driven programming.

Contract Negotiation: Assist and work with Music Director & Personnel Manager to execute individual contracts for concert masters, guest artists, and all relevant artistic personnel.

Marketing & Promotion: Supervise and consult marketing & communications staff in development & implementation of marketing & audience development activities.

Finances: Supervise and consult Finance Manager to ensure accurate books, develop annual budget, manage grant funds & expenditures

Other: Within reasonable scope of this position, the Executive Director may be requested to perform additional duties in either of the above categories.

SBYO Intern

General Responsibilites:

  • Assist with set up rehearsal space (chairs and stands)
  • Assist with tear down rehearsal space (chairs and stands)
  • Assist with with taking attendance
  • Assist with snack preperation (set up & serving)
  • Assist with promotional displays, and passing out SBYO flyers
  • Assist with poster distribution, and selling concert tickets
  • Assist with selling advertising spots for the concert porgram

Specific Intern Responsibilities:

  • Discreetly see that scholarship kids/parents are volunteering at least 3 times per term.
  • Plan groupings for Outreach Concert events
