Music Under the Stars

On May 13, 2023 enjoy live music by a special consort of musicians from the Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra set to unique immersive animation in the planetarium’s Dome360 Theatre.  This one-of-a-kind experience features a string quintet led by Gregg Powell, Principal Bassist and Personnel Manager for the Symphony.  Selections include “Mars, the Bringer of War” by Gustav Holst, “Symphony #41: Jupiter” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, “Twilight: New Moon” by Alexandre Desplat, and “Song Under The Stars” by Elena Roussanova Lucas, all visually choreographed to vibrant visual effects, from spacescapes to surrealistic environments.

This exclusive event plays one day only on Saturday, May 13 with performances at 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.  Tickets are $20 per seat.  Due to the nature of the live performance in a small venue, the experience is not recommended for children under 12.  Because of limited seating, pre-reservation is highly recommended at www.delta.edu/planetarium. 

“We are thrilled to bring the talents of both organizations together again to provide a special experience that combines performance and digital arts in such a unique way,” says Mike Murray, Astronomer and Manager of the Planetarium.  “Putting music, art and celestial visions together in this immersive space creates something magical, a way to capture awe and wonder in a multi-dimensional way.  Put that into a collective audience experience and it multiplies the sense of connection even further,” adds Murray.
